Domaine des Messires

The modern washroom building was always really clean, and there’s a handy app for ordering breakfast. The campsite sits beside a beautiful, large lake, with kayaks and paddle boards free to use. There were lots of families with kids, so mornings could get a bit noisy if your pitch was near the playground.

The quiet lakeside setting was lovely, and some people were fishing right from their pitches. It’s a good base for exploring the countryside nearby. I was there on 10th September and had plenty of pitches to choose from, though the bar was closed. Luckily, reception had a fridge stocked with wine and beer to take away. A friendly Dutch woman checked me in. The owners have run the campsite for seven years, and the many repeat visitors, especially Dutch ones, make it seem like they’re doing plenty right. Washrooms were good, toilet paper included. Electricity was covered by the price, though I didn’t use it. I’ll be back!

We both really enjoyed our stay and would come again when travelling through France. The site is tucked away, so it’s very peaceful, and the pitches are roomy, with conifer hedges giving them some privacy. A few are by the lake. When we arrived on 6 & 7/05/16, we were offered coffee on the terrace overlooking the water, and the welcome was incredibly friendly. There are play areas for little ones, plus canoeing and volleyball for older kids. The bar and restaurant also look out over the lake. The menu is limited, but we both liked our meals.

There’s plenty of shade, and every pitch has electricity, water and grey water disposal. The lake is lovely, with big grass carp that are hard to catch. The managers and staff take good care of what you need. I ordered bread online, and it was ready at 8.30.
