Au bois flotté

A lovely, peaceful place in the forest. The bed was superb, and the host was very nice. Mac the dog was friendly too.

I was really looking forward to staying here, as the property looked beautiful. After this experience, though, I'm glad I found out what the person running it was like before arriving. I booked through Booking.com for a delayed honeymoon break in July, which I'd saved six months for. When COVID-19 hit, I kept watching the Government guidelines and hoped it would be safe to travel. I have asthma and a heart condition, so I've had to be extra careful. A month before the trip, I decided the risk was too much. I contacted David to ask if I could move the dates to next year. I didn't want a refund, because I still wanted to stay another time. Other properties I'd booked during that period were happy to change dates. David said he couldn't do it and that I'd have to cancel, even though I'd paid in full and would lose all my money. He said I'd waited until the last minute for my “personal convenience.” If my health counts as personal convenience, then yes. The situation was changing all the time, and I'd held on in case I could still go. I was devastated to cancel because I wasn't willing to risk my health. Booking.com tried to get my money back, but couldn't. I understand David wanted to protect his business, but he had my full payment and showed no flexibility. He was rude, and treating potential customers that way doesn't protect a business. A month's notice may not have left much time to rebook, but with much of the world in lockdown for the previous three months, I thought a booking was unlikely anyway. He already had my money, so he wouldn't have missed out. He could have shown some heart and looked after a potential customer in a difficult time. I think businesses that do that will come out on top. I would rather eat my left foot than be around people like this. Maybe one day I'll be able to afford another honeymoon break. Don't waste your time, I'm sure you can find equally nice places run by kinder people. Such a shame.

It works well enough as a stopover, though it feels quite isolated. Breakfast was okay, but seemed a bit meagre.
