Le Domaine de l'Etang de Sandanet

We only stayed one night, so having cottages that take guests for just a single night was really convenient. Our requested room with two beds was clean, comfortable, and very nice. The park and grounds are beautifully kept, with a pond right in the middle, and the whole place has a lovely, peaceful feel. Breakfast was the one small letdown, with industrial jam and the rest of that kind of thing. Still, the value for money is perfect.

The setting is lovely and quiet, and the room was basic but clean. We stayed three nights, though the welcome felt pretty minimal, just a hello and goodbye. Breakfast was the real letdown: no homemade jam, one pastry per person, and bitter coffee or tea from a thermos, even though the owner made a good espresso right in front of us. On our last morning the bread was stale, so we gave it to the fish and ducks. We won't be back.

The welcome was friendly, and the price felt reasonable. We also enjoyed the table d'hôte, and the grounds around the pond are beautiful. The pool is shallow across much of its area, which works well for children. What kept this from a fifth star was the very cold, unheated pool, poor sound insulation between cottages (we could hear everything next door), little light inside our cottage, and creaky wooden floors. We spent a week there last summer.

We were just two people renting the lovely cottage for four, and it felt like having our own little house for 10 days. The terrace opened straight onto the pool. The owners were friendly and the atmosphere felt very family-like. It's peaceful there, while still close to the main attractions. I'd say go without hesitation! 😊
