We really enjoyed having so much space in the biggest of the four rooms during our three nights in July 2025 with our two young kids. The garden was lovely and peaceful, and breakfast was more like a brunch, fresh and flexible. Valerie, the owner who runs things, was kind and professional. Olli was super sweet with the babies, too. Thanks, Valerie, for doing such a great job. We’ll definitely come back to Joinville on our next trip.

The owner speaks French, perfect German, and very good English. Breakfast had a wide choice, including good cheeses, homemade jams, and cold meats for those who eat them in the morning. We loved the guest room and the large shared room. The old house is laid out cleverly, with imaginative furnishings and lovingly restored old furniture, along with a few smart electronic touches. We came upon Le Val du Roy by chance after accidentally booking a hotel room in Joinville, Brazil, while arranging an overnight stop on our cycle tour along the Canal entre Champagne et Bourgogne. We were tired and anxious about finding somewhere to stay, and the welcome here was personal, comforting, and heartwarming. A memorable stay, highly recommended.

It’s a lovely classic French house, and we had a really nice experience with a warm welcome. No hesitation recommending it. Thanks, and see you soon!

A cosy spot in an old French townhouse.

We particularly liked the enclosed garden, where you can sit at a table or stretch out on a sun lounger. The location works well, too: there’s a dead-end path into the forest on one side, ideal for walkers and dog walks, and the small town with its good restaurants on the other. We stayed one night with our four-legged friend and were warmly welcomed. Everything was very clean, and the large room was really comfortable. Breakfast was excellent, with plenty of sweet and savory choices.
