The restaurant is the standout for me. It’s Michelin starred, and the food was amazing from breakfast through dinner. The menu changes daily; I especially liked the lobster, vongole, and lait Ribot dessert with honey. The rooms have a castle feel, with velvet and wood, and a lovely setting facing the sea. La Baule has plenty of hotels to choose from, including The Royal and l’Ermitage, but Castel Marie Louise is smaller and made us feel at home. The staff throughout the hotel made a real effort to make the stay feel special, and the concierge gave us great recommendations. There are also lovely amenities, plus access to the thermal Spa at the Royal hotel, so you get both experiences. A remarkable relais châteaux retreat.

Set in a quiet part of La Baule, the hotel has lovely, well-kept gardens. The staff were helpful and very friendly, and the views look out over a fabulous stretch of sandy beach.

It’s quieter and more understated than the other two Barriere Groupe hotels in la Baule, the Royal and the Hermitage. The food and service are just as good.
