Golden Tulip La Baule Hôtel & Résidence

The bar was meant to stay open until 10:00 PM, but we were turned away with five minutes still to go. Two staff members were behind the bar and said they’d already closed, even though some guys had managed to order just a few minutes earlier. We’d only wanted to get something quickly. It felt lazy and unfriendly. If the closing time is 10:00 PM, service should be available until then. Hospitality clearly didn’t seem to matter much here, which was a shame.

The staff were kind, helpful, and always smiling. The clean rooms were large, though the mattresses had wires and weren’t very comfortable. There weren’t many breakfast choices, which was disappointing. Room service was okay, but the supreme chicken didn’t have much taste. Lunch was bad.

The underground parking was really useful for keeping the car out of the heat and storing our bikes, and the lift went straight to the bedroom floors. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the rooms were cleaned and towels changed regularly. We stayed as a family in a suite with a separate upstairs bedroom. It was spacious, very clean, had everything we needed, and the air conditioning was a relief in the heat. The pool was on the small side. We only used it once, and it felt like we were taking up space from other families, with little room for floats. La Baule’s centre isn’t right nearby, which is reflected in the lower price, but it’s about a 25-minute walk. There’s also a cycle path close by. With small children, we drove into town and found parking fairly easily in residential streets near the beach. We’d definitely come back to the area and stay here again. Highly recommend!

The rooms are spacious and modern, much better than the ones downtown, and breakfast was good too. It’s a nice, new hotel, though the location is less appealing.
