The dinner didn’t match what had been described in the email: it was supposed to include a starter, main course, cheese, and dessert for €26.00 excluding drinks. We were still waiting for the starter, the cheese portion was minimal for 12 people, and the main course was disappointing too. We stayed on Thursday, June 4th, at the "Le Clos de l'Âtre" B&B in La Chaise-Dieu. The former gendarmerie barracks is a beautiful, clean building with lots of character. The young woman who welcomed us was kind, but the service we expected fell well short. We were motorcyclists, and the weather was dreadful. It had been pouring since the afternoon in the Puys region, with temperatures between 7 and 9°C, so you can imagine the state we were in when we arrived. In that situation, it would have been nice to have someone light one of the lovely fireplaces and offer us a hot drink instead of showing us the library. Those small gestures would mean a lot to motorcyclists, hikers, and cyclists caught out in such weather.

Maëwen is lovely, and we keep coming back whenever we’re in the area. The rooms are very comfortable, the welcome is warm, and breakfast is perfect, with fresh bread and homemade jams. A fantastic stay in a beautiful place. I highly recommend it!

The rooms were clean and comfortable, with a lovely view over the town and countryside. We got a friendly welcome, and breakfast with homemade jams was delicious. The former gendarmerie is full of character, right in the heart of La Chaise-Dieu and only a few dozen meters from the abbey. It’s hard to find somewhere more authentic. The dining room is impressive, as is the staircase up to the rooms. Just be aware it’s quite a climb if you have heavy luggage. We highly recommend it 👍

We stayed for two weeks in August 2025 in the small independent studio, which has its own garden, right in the charming village of La Chaise-Dieu. It felt like a little palace, with a superb bathroom, excellent bedding, and a practical, well-equipped kitchenette. The private garden was a real bonus. The owners were kind, discreet, thoughtful, and efficient. We had a wonderful time and wholeheartedly recommend this independent accommodation.
