The pool, hammam, and sauna were clean and pleasant, and the staff were really friendly and helpful, unlike some comments I’d read. We were six friends there from Thursday noon until Sunday noon. It’s a very nice hotel, though it didn’t have the wow factor I’d expect of a five-star relais&chateau. That may suit people who want somewhere more relaxed than posh. We only ate breakfast, which had a nice range of fresh products. I missed having green salad or fresh vegetables, and basic omelets or poached eggs cost extra, which I don’t think you’d expect at a five-star hotel. My double room, 213-214, was very spacious, honestly I’d have been comfortable with half that space. All in all, I thought it was good value, and the ski resort is lovely and great for family holidays.

After a long day in the mountains, the spa and pool were just right. The hotel itself is superb, the staff are impeccable, and the well-appointed rooms have everything you need to feel comfortable.

The orange pates des fruites were divine. We only got one with our tea, but I could have eaten a whole bucket of them. My partner’s meal looked beautiful, and he thought it was good, though nothing special. The staff were lovely and helpful, and the space is nice. They also did their best to accommodate my dietary restrictions, no gluten, dairy, or red meat, which I know can be a French person’s nightmare. There were only two things they could change, but I really appreciated the effort. The onion soup tasted more like sautéed mushrooms in broth, and I couldn’t detect any onion. That might have been because of the modification. The pad Thai was okay, but not great.

The decor is still fabulous, but the service and quality were a real letdown. We stopped for a drink at a place that had been our favorite in La Clusaz for 12 years, and it was so disappointing. It had been wonderful a few years ago, but seemed to get worse each year. Tonight was the low point. My 20 euro glass of wine tasted barely better than vinegar. My husband couldn’t drink his either, so he mentioned it. They changed the wine, which can happen if a bottle has gone bad, but the replacement was just as bad. Such a shame.
