Hôtel Relais du Loir

The breakfasts are amazing, with 22 different teas to choose from, and there are some fun quirky touches too, like large walk-in showers and a handmade pizza machine on the outside wall. Guests and locals seem to love it, especially on Sundays and Mondays when few other places to eat are open. There’s no restaurant, but Brian can make a magnificent platter of cold meats. Bryan Beyer and his stepfamily are really welcoming. We like this place a lot and it’s definitely on our list to visit again.

The place looked lovely, with nice rooms and pleasant shared spaces, including a balcony and a flower-filled patio. The staff were friendly and let us check in late when we arrived too late for the usual time. It was quiet, the wifi worked, and there were plenty of free spaces to park on the street out front, though the parking isn’t secured. A supermarket is next door, and the river and some lovely buildings are close by. There’s also a 24/7 pizza machine outside. The pizza was overpriced for its size and quality, but still made a decent late meal. The breakfast room was clean and attractive, though I would have liked more hot or savory food. There were lots of sweet options, plus baguette with ham, chorizo or cheese, but nothing like scrambled eggs. The room had a bathtub but no shower, and water sometimes got onto the floor despite the glass panel. I wasn’t sure if the tub soap was for hair too, so I used my own shampoo. Only one side of the bed had a power outlet, and there was no air conditioning. With the window open, traffic noise woke us sometimes. The owners have a very small, friendly dog, though that could be an issue for someone with a phobia or allergy. It’s a very nice place with friendly owners, and everything we needed was within walking distance. A few details, including air conditioning, kept it from being five stars for me.

It’s a B&B-style hotel with just the basics. We booked the package that included dinner, so it was worth staying. There aren’t any places nearby.
