I never actually stayed here, and the way my cancellation was handled left me very upset. I booked the only room I could find for my dates at hotel Ciceron through booking.com. Two months before the stay, I cancelled after finding somewhere much nicer and cheaper. The owner said he hadn’t received the cancellation email and charged me £180 for a room I never used. I happened to be in la Fleche, so I went to the hotel and showed him the booking.com cancellation email. He initially refused to refund me and seemed dodgy and very unpleasant. After about 20 minutes, he agreed to give me the money back in cash, but warned that he’d check with booking.com and charge me again if the cancellation wasn’t valid. The hotel also looks dated, with old, tatty rooms and prices that are far too high. There are plenty of lovely B&Bs and hotels in beautiful old buildings around la Fleche and the countryside, so please find somewhere else.

The facilities have been renovated and are good, though the hotel itself is old. If you have a heavy bag, you’ll need someone to carry it up the stairs.

We were glad we chose this place. The building is gorgeous, the rooms are quiet and comfortable, breakfast was excellent, and the service was attentive.

We cancelled our room straight away. The receptionist was nowhere to be found, and after waiting 20 minutes at reception, we were met with incredibly rude staff. We couldn’t give it zero stars.
