Brasserie le Pont d'Anjou

There were three of us, and the bill was far higher than we could have imagined. The food was impossible to eat: some dishes had apparently been cooked more than two days earlier, and the sauces on the table had been expired for months. The room had no bathroom door, too. The owner spent the day drinking beer by the bar and hotel entrance. It’s a shame anyone goes here. They charge as though it were a very good restaurant, and I have nothing against restaurants, but I’m telling you to stay away. You’ll really see some things in African countries.

The only good part was the friendly person who greeted us. We were hiking the Régalante route and stopped in Guerche-de-Bretagne, choosing this hotel without checking the reviews. That was a big mistake. It felt abandoned, with awful smells of tobacco and damp throughout. Our four-person room was by far the ugliest and most expensive one we’d had on the hike, and it was barely clean. The restaurant was shut, which was apparently just as well. We weren’t after luxury, but I’d avoid the place.

My daughter ended up spending the night after turning down two extremely dirty rooms. She’d originally booked a night at this “fabulous” hotel, and eventually left the “lovely” place reluctantly. She forgot to finish the moldy cheese served at breakfast, but took home a lasting souvenir of the hostile setting: several bedbug bites. Thanks for the new experience.

The plates were pretty and the servings generous, and the parking was decent. The bar was pleasant and the decor had been nicely renovated, so there’s potential here. But the service showed a serious lack of professionalism, if there was any at all. We were asked whether we’d chosen before anyone had even shown us a menu. Apparently that’s how Sundays work! 😁 We also got one bottle of Cristaline water for three people instead of the aperitif included in the €23 set menu, since we didn’t want sangria. Not even sparkling water was offered. Good luck with the relaunch.
