The apartment looked much bigger in the photos than it was. Four of us stayed for a week, and the trouble started before we even got in. We arrived on August 19th after touring Aquitaine. I had asked Mrs. Oliva whether we could get there around 9:00 PM, because I needed to collect my daughter from Marseille airport at 7:00 PM. She flatly said no. Keys were available only from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, when the agency closed. For later arrivals, they could be left at the nearby Vival minimarket, but that shut at 8:00 PM. It felt more like a furniture shop that also rented apartments than a proper agency. So we planned to arrive between 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM, even though that meant making another 3.5-hour round trip to Marseille airport later. Then our car broke down on the highway. Getting roadside help in a foreign country where we barely spoke the language was difficult, but after about three hours we were on our way again. We told the agency we would miss the deadline and asked for some understanding given the situation. Mrs. Oliva said the keys could only be left at the minimarket. If we couldn't reach it by 8:00 PM, we would need to find somewhere else to sleep, even though she had already taken the rent. I suggested leaving the keys at a bar or another place that stayed open late, or bringing them to her home so we could collect them. She refused, replying arrogantly that we had to manage on our own and should organize ourselves better. As if anyone can plan for a car breakdown. We struggled to reach the minimarket by 8:00 PM, only to find three shops in La Londe with the same name, and we were at the wrong one. Thanks to the owner, who called around to the other shops, we eventually got the keys and entered the apartment. The agency faces a little square full of bars and restaurants that stay open late, where people all seem to know each other. In an emergency, Mrs. Oliva could have made an exception, or installed a combination key box by the front door, as is done across Europe. A terrible experience. If they don't know how to accommodate tourists, they should find another line of work.
