It's a pleasant little family-run guesthouse out in the middle of nowhere, in scenery that reminds me of Europe's low mountain ranges. The owner is enthusiastic and communicative, though the conversation is in French. There's also a rule against bringing food and drinks into the rooms, which seems rather odd. Whether it's actually enforced remains to be seen.

We were really happy we stayed here. The house is beautifully decorated, and the hosts made us feel so welcome. Dinner was the best meal we had on the island, and even with our limited French we picked up plenty of useful information and felt ready for our volcano visit. I'd have given five stars, but I only give that last star to places that take cards. Cash feels outdated!

We picked this B&B because it’s about a 45-minute drive from Piton de la Fournaise. The room was comfortable, with its own bathroom and individual heating, which was welcome on chilly winter evenings. We had the set dinner, a delicious Creole meal, and a welcome drink that made it easy to get to know the others at our table. The owners’ homemade smoked meats were a real treat too. I’d happily recommend staying here.

We'd booked three months ahead, but the owner asked us to cancel ourselves, saying Booking.com had, quote, “overbooked.” They never answered our messages asking what had happened. We were very surprised by the way this was handled and by the lack of consideration. Future potential overbookers, take note: avoid at all costs!
