Hotel L'Ecrin

We were leaving at 5am, long before breakfast, and the staff kindly put together a tray with tea, coffee, croissants, juice, and other things. They were friendly and helpful. The room was extremely clean, had its own rustic charm, and came with a balcony and all the essentials. It's very close to the volcano too. I don't understand why it hasn't got more five-star reviews.

The bungalows are lovely, with a fridge that was really useful for keeping hiking snacks cool, plus a new bathroom and air conditioning. Panorama Restaurant offered very good value. The free jacuzzi, sauna, and hamam were nice to have. Breakfast was average, but you can book a breakfast plate for an early hike. Unfortunately, the cleaning staff took most of ours from the room, even though we wanted to eat it for lunch. It would be nice to have a table on the private terraces. There was mold in the rooms.

Our family was unsure about stopping here on the GR-R2 because of a few mediocre reviews, but we were glad we did. The rooms at Hotel L'Ecrin were clean and comfortable, the staff helpful, and the breakfast buffet very good. There was a small bar and pleasant grounds with different activities, plus an excellent restaurant next door for dinner. We'd definitely stay again.

Not a nice place to stay. The restaurant is expensive for tourists, and there's basically nothing to do. There is a pool table, but it's unusable because the cue is broken and there's only one. Wi-Fi only works at reception.
