The family-run hotel gave us useful tips, including St Martin on Iile de Rae and the Sunday market, places we might have missed otherwise. Sunday is a great time to be there because the local market brings the area to life. Getting in from the airport is quick, and public transport to La Rochelle and the connected island Iile de Rae is good. The rooms are basic but comfortable, and the setting is quiet. Breakfast is generous enough to keep most people going until early afternoon. Dinner is extra, and very good by the local verdict in the French reviews on TA. The neighborhood looks a little run down, but there’s a very good supermarket within walking distance.

Good value for the money, and the restaurant is a real highlight. The food was fresh, excellent, and delicious. I recommend the skate with cape.

I paid €47, but I wouldn't stay there. Online it is shown as a two-star hotel, while the manager says it has no stars at all. Check for yourself. It was a huge disappointment, and I agree with most of the earlier negative reviews: old furniture, a bidet in the bedroom facing the bed, and a bedroom door that doesn't shut properly. Avoid it.
