The staff were very welcoming and friendly, and the hotel is ideally situated with a private underground car park. But it didn't meet the standard we'd expect from a five-star place. The room felt tired and gloomy, and there was just one handwash for two toilets, two basins, a bath, and a shower. The bar was overpriced. Dinner was another letdown: the only restaurant serves tasting menus, and the food was unexciting and not very tasty. Service felt fussy, with someone listing every ingredient in each course, while the meal was both very expensive and pretentious. At this level, there should be an international à la carte option. Breakfast was poor too, overcrowded and with little choice. There was no cut fruit, the machine coffee tasted of nothing, and the fruit juice wasn't very nice. The price was simply breathtaking. My wife and I stayed this week, and sadly this will be our only visit to the hotel and restaurant.

The location is really nice, and the lobby and amenities are lovely. We also enjoyed a good massage, and the spa facilities are impressive, though there was a slight drain smell there too. Our room was shabby, with exposed TV cords, wardrobe doors missing, and no hair dryer. The strongest issue was the shower drain smell. We mentioned it to the very nice staff, and I think they tried to fix it, but it still wasn't resolved while we were there. The restaurant looked lovely, but it was closed both evenings of our stay, which isn't great for a hotel. We paid a good price, but this felt more like a three star place. That's not an insult, as we've stayed at lovely boutique three star hotels. I just feel this was presented as something it wasn't.

We live close to La Rochelle and don't stay overnight, but whenever we visit we pop in for coffee or a drink. The bar is comfortable, the staff are helpful and smiley, and the prices seem fair.

We only meant to stay one night during an unplanned trip to La Rochelle, but quickly extended it to two. The hotel has a lovely, calming feel, and the staff treated us like old friends. The valet even kindly packed our luggage into the car. I can't recommend a stay here enough. We'll be back!

We spent a good part of the day relaxing in the courtyard and by the pool, then heading out to explore La Rochelle. That really made the stay special. The hotel feels like a peaceful oasis in the city, and our room was spacious and thoughtfully designed. Breakfast was very good, with attentive staff; the bar team were lively and courteous and enjoyed sharing cocktail ideas with guests. Everyone was especially attentive and polite, and reception was always ready to help. I'd happily come back.
