Gîte des Louchardes

We left after seeing the room. The photos made the place look much more appealing, and the confirmation said we would have a private bathroom, but the bathroom was shared. Our twin room was dated, with wallpaper peeling at the seams, and there was nowhere to store our things, not even a nightstand. There was no WIFI, including no paid option, and no air conditioning, though that's apparently hard to find in this region. We went to Hotel de la Halle in Nolay instead. It cost the same and felt much more inviting and comfortable.

The cottage was clean, with a roomy bathroom and basic but practical bedrooms, and the welcome was courteous, though not very personal. Breakfast was a letdown: the products were low quality, apart from the homemade jam. The main road location also lacked charm. It's a shame the kitchen wasn't easy to use.

We stayed the night of August 4 to 5. The owner let us arrive at 11 at night by leaving the cottage door open, which was helpful. The sheets were clean, but cleanliness could be better: the bin hadn't been emptied despite the hot weather. Comfort was only average, with basic furniture and no bath or foot towel. Breakfast was sparse, with baguette, average industrial pastries, concentrated orange juice, and no eggs. In short, expensive for what it is.

We stayed one night on our way south. It's rather out of the way, but comfortable and very pleasant. The rooms are nicely furnished, there's a pool guests can use, and breakfast is generous and tasty. The hostess speaks excellent German and English if needed. It'd also suit anyone wanting seclusion or somewhere to hike, and I'd stay again if I travel through the area.
