Hotel Restaurant & Spa Au Tilleul

We spent four nights here with my family, and the rooms were very dirty. One bed smelled like urine. When we reported it to reception, the response felt almost like an attack. The cleaning staff member, an Asian woman, was rude and impolite, and nearly assaulted us in the room. We struggled to get her out. After that incident, we didn’t use the spa or jacuzzi. If a room smells like urine, how clean could the pool be?

The room was old, but clean and big enough for four single beds. The shower was tiny but worked fine. The food at the restaurant was good, though not amazing as some other reviews suggested. The service, from the older gentleman with glasses, was some of the worst we’ve encountered: zero customer service. We asked if there was an English or Spanish menu and got a dirty look and a dry “no.” We tried our very broken French, then asked for help understanding the menu, but got more dirty looks and rudeness. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to anyone who isn’t fluent in French. To be fair, the younger corean gentleman who helped us at reception and in the restaurant was very nice and helpful, and so was the female owner. It’s a shame one person can spoil what could have been a pleasant, enjoyable experience.

The first room had a strange, mold-like smell, so we had to switch rooms. In the second one, the outer shades were broken, and we had to close the bedroom one by hand. The bathroom’s inner shades were broken too. The drain was clogged, so we had to remove the cap to let the water flow. Wi-Fi didn’t work where we were, only in the main house. On the plus side, it was easy to get to the surrounding cities, and there’s a great bakery just across the street.

The staff were very friendly and attentive, and the rooms were modern and very clean. It was excellent value. The only reason I didn’t give it four stars was that the three-course dinner was just okay.
