We spent a lot of time and money on phone calls trying to get a refund and find somewhere else to stay. The booking agency said we’d need to discuss compensation with the owner. By then we were exhausted and just wanted to get back to our vacation. A swarm of mosquitoes also attacked us while we were visiting, which made the experience even worse. We’d booked and paid online for a room with three beds at La Villa Des Sens. When we arrived at the agreed time, the owner wasn’t there. We called her to get in, and she said they didn’t have any rooms with three beds, so we couldn’t stay. Before we left, at her suggestion, we looked around the property. The bedrooms, each with one bed, did look pleasant.

We couldn’t relax in the garden because there were so many mosquitoes. Check-in was handled by phone: the owner directed us to the building while speaking with us, even though she lives right next door. She wasn’t very friendly. The parking lot was narrow but secure, though we were blocked by a vehicle that hadn’t left enough space. We reported that the towel rack was faulty, but nothing had been done after three days. There’s also a shared refrigerator for guests in the three rooms, but the drinks I left in it during my stay went missing. The website lists breakfast at €17 per person, while the B&B brochure says it’s included. I pointed out the contradiction, and the owner apparently hadn’t noticed 😡. At €17 per person, the breakfast didn’t seem worth it: there were no cold cuts or cheeses, and the orange juice was bottled, though there was a small fresh fruit salad. (See photo.) Some of the information about places to visit was wrong. I was initially told that the city of Sète would be empty on Sundays, which wasn’t the case.

The owner was incredibly kind and helpful, adapting to her guests and welcoming them warmly. She made us feel right at home. The whole house is peaceful and pleasant, with a beautiful garden, and the cleanliness was impeccable. Our room was tastefully decorated and very well maintained. We’d happily come back and highly recommend this guesthouse!

Just 10 minutes from the beaches, this was a lovely place to stay. We were there for three days at the end of July, and got a very warm welcome and a lovely room. I highly recommend it! Dominique
