Hôtel Perier du Bignon

Roberto gave us a huge welcome in the courtyard before we'd even checked in, and we were lucky to get an upgrade. The room and facilities were lovely, and the hotel was very peaceful. Most of the staff were excellent, though one person let the team down a little with slow service or forgotten orders. The place could use some TLC, but it's full of character and has a great history. We'd love to come back sometime.

The rooms were clean and well equipped, and the location is very good. It looks beautiful on arrival, and the staff were friendly enough. I asked for a table at the gourmet restaurant when booking, but found out when we arrived that it was closed. I also didn't care for the patio, with its plastic grass and lack of charm. Around the property, some things felt out of place, like laundry baskets in the corridors, children's high chairs on a patio for no reason, and decor that lacked coherence. The carpeting changes from one area to another in a bizarre way, though everyone has different taste. We went to a restaurant five minutes away instead. The location is handy for walking anywhere.

The room was spotless and quiet, and the staff were brilliant. When we arrived on Sunday evening, they kindly arranged a light dinner even though neither restaurant was open. The older hotel has lovely grounds, an outdoor garden bar, and a swimming pool, but no air conditioning in the room. It's puzzling that both restaurants were closed, especially since nearly every restaurant in Laval is shut on Sundays. On Mondays, nearly everything in Laval is closed too, including shops, museums, the chateau, and restaurants.

We were on the ground floor, with balcony access straight into the garden. The room was extremely clean, and the simple breakfast tasted good. Having a bathtub was great for dealing with jet lag, and I had a nice bath before bed. A perfect one-night stay, highly recommended!
