La Bastide Saint Christophe

We loved coming back to the comforts of Bastide St Christophe after days out exploring, from the mountains to the coast and river gorges. We spent January in this spacious, bright gîte in Bar Sur Loup, which had everything we needed to feel at home. The owners keep it VERY clean and tidy, and the furnishings are comfortable with modern appliances, all in a lush garden setting. It’s also a handy base for visiting villages of every size, and we easily found groceries, boulangeries, and wine shops.

It’s a pleasure to spend time in these apartments, whether watching the birds in the olive trees, enjoying the valley views, or sitting out on the balcony in February. Come evening, they’re warm and cosy. This was my second long winter stay, which says plenty. Milly and Art are charming, professional hosts, and I can’t imagine them doing a better job. I stayed in two apartments. Both were spacious and quiet, with modern bathrooms and lovely living rooms looking over the valley. The bedrooms and kitchens differ, but everything worked well. I also enjoy hiking in the nearby hills and shopping and eating in the friendly village.

We came back after loving our first stay, in the Olive Grove apartment in 2017, and ended up being even more impressed with Upper Garden. The magnificent views and secure private parking were a treat, and there was plenty of room and everything we needed for five guests. We loved the atmosphere as Francophiles. After hot days of sightseeing, the pool at 30 degrees was a real bonus. The apartments give each group privacy, while the pool and boules area make it easy to mingle if you want. The village has a couple of good restaurants, and the locals were friendly and happy to try English when needed. Milly and Art have made the place welcoming. They leave you to it, but are there to help. Another wonderful week, and we congratulated ourselves on making the return trip. Why didn’t we book a fortnight?

The Lower Ground Floor was lovely and more than roomy enough for four of us. The hosts kept us posted about places to visit, even when it was raining. We also really enjoyed the different levels outside, from the courtyard and vines up to the pool. Such a beautiful setting, and a thoroughly enjoyable stay. Thank you.
