Awful place. Lies and nothing but a scam. We came for Alpe d'Huez, the big event where 5,000 people cycle or walk up the mountain as many times as they can to raise money for the fight against cancer. We were walking. Before we’d even had a chance to say hello, the hostess asked where the deposit was. The chalet was badly outdated and a jumble of broken and rotten things. Building materials had been left in the garden, the jacuzzi water was green after a year, and the garden was neglected. There was dog poop and rat and mouse droppings everywhere. Worst of all, there was no hot water in an 11-person chalet. The hostess knew about it and had just unplugged the boiler, apparently doing so deliberately for the chalet landlord. We were told everything would be fixed, but nothing was, despite the terrible weather. It was really sad. When we left, the hostess promised €1,000 in compensation, but that turned out to be a lie too. We got nothing back, after all sorts of excuses. Even our suggestion to put the money into the cancer fund was ignored. This is an unsocial, money-greedy place, too sad for words.

The welcome was appalling, and the house wasn’t ready for us at 5 PM as promised. The cleaners were still there at 9 PM, apparently having only been told that morning about the IMPORTANT work needed. The sheets were moldy, the dishes dirty, and the promised outdoor equipment was broken or missing. There was no discussion when we called the owner. She hung up and only suggested that we leave if we weren’t happy, with no guarantee of getting back the €1000 we’d already paid for two nights. Other reviews made us worry we might lose our deposit too. A complete scam. Do not rent or book this accommodation.

The cottage sits in the nature reserve, and the area is gorgeous. We had a stunning view from the balcony and terrace. The owner was very friendly and always ready to help. Highly recommended!

We had a terrible experience, and what should have been a lovely family weekend ended up costing a fortune. The chalet listing didn’t say it was split into two apartments with a shared garden and jacuzzi. We only found that out when we arrived. The person who welcomed us was friendly at first, but no inventory or condition report was filled in or signed either when we arrived or when we left. They asked for a €1000 security deposit instead of €500. Although everything was in order, the deposit wasn’t returned at departure. They cashed our €1000 check three days after we left and refused to give it back without any justification, despite our proof. They also made up dog taxes at the end of the stay, even though we’d discussed the dogs by email when booking and they met them on arrival without saying anything. At checkout, the welcoming person was no longer welcoming. They arrived 20 minutes late to hand over the keys, even though they were next door walking their dog, then slammed the door in our faces and wouldn’t discuss returning the security deposit check. Beware of this scam. Avoid this rental.

Hiking trails begin right at this beautiful, spacious house, which also has a jacuzzi and hammam. The owner was helpful and gave us great advice. Alpe d'Huez and Les Deux Alpes are 20-25 minutes away for skiing. I’d highly recommend it in either summer or winter.
