Château des Bertrands

We left disappointed on our last visit in June 2023. We’d enjoyed coming here for years and had bought quite a bit of wine, often with help from a fantastic saleswoman in the shop. This time, the old shop was derelict. After searching online, we found it had moved a few kilometers away, but there wasn’t even a notice at the old location to say so. At the new shop, a sign said tastings were free with a purchase, otherwise it cost €9 for three wines or €15 for five. That was a big change from before and felt commercially exploitative to us, which put us off. We went in hoping to see our former saleswoman, but she wasn’t there. Three salesmen ignored us, so we looked at the wines ourselves. We didn’t like the selection, mainly because prices were higher, and left disappointed. I don’t think it’s a new owner, just the same one trying to squeeze more out of the investment. For now, they’ve lost us as customers.
