Clean place, nice room.

The location is ideal, right in the city center. Carrefour or Auchan is a 2-3 minute walk away, Saint-Pierre’s quayside is one minute away, and Guinguette beach restaurant takes 5-6 minutes to reach on foot. The Saint-Pierre market is nearby too, and the Saint-Pierre ruins are a 15-minute walk away. The cottage itself is basic and simple, with no cooking facilities, just a kettle in the room for tea or coffee. The welcome, though, was awful. Run away! The owner is extremely unpleasant, and that’s putting it mildly. The female owner was very neutral, with no warmth, but less aggressive. I was met with a dreadful atmosphere and vulgarity I couldn’t imagine at a business that’s supposed to offer hospitality. It’s incomprehensible. I suspect the owners may be suffering because of their work. It’s a shame, and I even feel sorry for them.

The location in Saint-Pierre is a plus, but the owners’ behavior made this a disappointing stay. I tried to respect their privacy and the property, and kept my interactions to a minimum. Even so, I was aggressively reprimanded for washing a cup and a plate in my bathroom sink instead of the kitchen sink in the owners’ area. I’d done it to avoid disturbing them, and neither item had greasy food that would need much cleaning. When I left, the owner made hurtful, disrespectful comments and inappropriately questioned my personal habits. The taxi driver waiting for me witnessed it. I also felt watched whenever I passed through the owners’ areas. That lack of respect for guests means I can’t recommend this rental.

Solange and Didier welcomed us warmly on January 1st, and we had some lovely conversations. They gave us lots of helpful information and advice for exploring the area. The accommodation is in a fantastic spot in the city center, next to the cathedral and just 105 meters from the beach, according to the owner. Thank you both, and all the best.
