Hôtel La Maison Créole

We ended up seeing so much of Guadeloupe from here, and fell in love with the country. Everyone was unbelievably friendly, including the housekeeping staff. They went out of their way to help us find places we needed and get around safely, especially when our French wasn't very good. When the ferry ran out of tickets, they even let us stay an extra night at the same rate. I wish we'd stayed longer. One housekeeper gave me private French lessons after she'd finished work, and it turned out she was from Dominica like me. Everyone made an effort to help us understand things and enjoy ourselves. And breakfast was phenomenal, wow!

We booked at the last minute because our flight was cancelled, and I'd definitely have chosen somewhere else if I'd had the choice. There were lots of small insects in the room, and the walls were so thin we could hear noise from the next room and hallway. Then, at midnight while we were asleep, the concierge knocked to ask our names. Apparently the check-in had been entered incorrectly and our room allocation was wrong.

We were glad to end up here when an unexpected travel glitch came up. The receptionist treated us kindly and warmly, which earned it five stars from us even though it's not a traditional five-star hotel. It was clean, friendly, and affordable.

You'll want a car here, since the hotel is far from the beach. The rooms are nice and come with a kitchen and refrigerator, and there's a nice pool.
