MGM Hôtels & Résidences – Résidence Le Roc des Tours

Our Prestige apartment looked great when we arrived, but it was directly under a restaurant in the same building, though the restaurant wasn't part of the hotel. Kitchen sounds carried through the evening and night, and in the middle of the week a party made things much worse. People were shouting and stomping. I went to complain at 11, but the restaurant manager said there was no problem and told me I shouldn't complain. He showed no empathy and didn't seem to care that we couldn't sleep. Reception couldn't be reached, so I had no way to get help. Things finally quieted down around 1:30, by which point my baby's sleep rhythm had already been disrupted. We raised it with reception the next day. They were sorry, but after discussing our complaint we learned this had been known for years, with hotel management and the restaurant management unable to agree on a solution. Le Roc was fully booked, so we couldn't move and had to put up with it. Reception management eventually tried to offer something after we made an effort to pursue it, but it was a discount on another booking. That's no way to treat people after several ruined nights. At the very least, they should refund the night when we couldn't sleep at all.

We've stayed here three years running, and the location is a big reason we keep coming back. It's right opposite the ski slopes, Netski is practically downstairs for equipment hire, and there are some lovely restaurants nearby serving great French food. ESF, the ski school, is right next to the building too. I can't recommend a better place. The only disappointment this year was the thinner snow compared with the previous two seasons. If we ski in early December next time, we may choose somewhere higher in the mountains. We love the MGM brand, though, so we'd likely pick one of their aparthotels. One small kitchen suggestion: it already has most things, but a sieve, spatula, food scales, potato masher, and standard salt and pepper would be useful. That's a minor gripe. Outside the main ski season, it's good value for money.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and we enjoyed winding down in the steam room and jacuzzi after the day. Our room was a good size, clean, and well equipped. It wasn't quite the ski-in, ski-out setup advertised, although the lift was just across the road. The only real downside for us was the pillows, which my partner and I both found uncomfortable.

Things started well, but we were told we had to clean before leaving. We were willing to do it, though we'd stayed in many similar places and never come across that before. We'd paid for an extra night and still left a day early. We only brought it up after a very rude staff member spoke to us as if we weren't customers, even though we'd paid extra. Such a shame, since we'd already planned to come back next year with friends. We definitely won't now.
