The worst part of our stay was the noise at night. Music from the neighboring villa kept us from sleeping, so we left a day early. The room was disappointing too, though we probably should have booked a suite. The staff at Akwabay in Le Lavandou were exceptionally friendly, a 10 out of 10 for service. But the rest didn’t feel like a five-star stay. We arrived at 6 PM after being told to check in by 7 PM on Sunday, only to find the restaurant closed that afternoon. Nobody had warned us, so we had to eat elsewhere. There weren’t any sunbeds set aside for guests, and outside visitors had reserved them ahead of time. We couldn’t find a place and ended up sitting on the sand. Towels weren’t provided either, so we had to buy our own. Breakfast was poor and chaotic, with so many wasps around that it was hard to eat in peace. In high season the beaches are far too crowded for a relaxing stay. Sadly, the resort didn’t meet our expectations.

We had a really lovely three-night stay as a group. Veronika looked after us from the moment we arrived, stayed patient and welcoming, and even waited up for us late in the evening. Many thanks to her! The setting is peaceful and beautiful, right by a little bay, with a great restaurant beside the villas. Breakfast was very nice too, especially with that amazing sea view. I’d happily recommend the place if you want quality in a quiet setting.

We used the sunbathing area above the beach, and there’s also a public section on the beach. Sunbeds cost €40 for two with a shade umbrella for the day, and you need to book lunch at the restaurant if you want to use them. We spent three days and two nights here in early June during a trip around Côte d’Azur and Provence. It’s a lovely little beach spot and good value for a short break. Our room was tidy and clean, with a king-size bed, bathroom, safe, fridge and coffee machine. The manager and staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast had local sweet and savory choices. A comfortable place with clean rooms and welcoming service.

The rooms are new and the AC worked well, but they’re very close together, so there’s little privacy and the stay depends a lot on who your neighbors are. We had a crying baby and some very loud people nearby. We also parked in the space reserved for our rented car, and someone hit it without leaving a note. We’d been told the property was secure and monitored, but the footage we asked for never came. We booked a last-minute break expecting a private beach. In practice, the flats belong to the same people who run the restaurant where breakfast is served, and the small “private” area is only about 14 m² on a public beach. Villa guests get no priority for the beds, which cost €35 a day plus a meal at that restaurant, and they’re always fully booked. Breakfast tasted good, but it was the same every day and got boring. We paid too much for an ordinary room without privacy, then spent our days at a public beach.

I found it hard to take the praise for breakfast in other reviews seriously. This place fell well short of five-star standards, and after the first night it was clear something was off. This isn’t a five-star hotel, or even a hotel at all. The owner’s continued claim on booking platforms that it is five-star is disgraceful, especially since Atout France has disproven it. If you’ve also been misled, I suggest taking it up with Atout France at ddpp@var.gouv.fr and looking into your refund options. Unacceptable.
