The room was in a beautifully restored 19th century school in a quiet, picturesque village. It was clean, cozy, and tastefully decorated, and the bed was so comfortable that I slept really well. Andrew and Gail made my short stay especially pleasant. They’re open, friendly, and easy-going, and their hospitality felt five-star. Somehow, it felt like I’d known them much longer. Breakfast was yummy, and Andrew makes the best coffee. I’d happily recommend staying here.

We’ve stayed here twice now, and the peaceful feel of the village and the calm of the house make it a lovely place to recharge. There are gardens and an orchard with spots to sit, enjoy the views, or read, while nearby medieval towns are easy to reach if you want things to do. Andrew and Gail welcome you warmly into their home, and the family cats are happy to have visitors cuddle them, so you really do feel part of the family. Our accommodation was a spacious two-bedroom apartment on the top floor of a restored schoolhouse. The restoration keeps original features, and the furnishings show great attention to detail. The pressed linen bedding feels luxurious. There’s fresh coffee and tea in the apartment, plus DVDs, music, and games in the lounge, which has lovely views. The bathroom has a multi-jet shower and a nice selection of toiletries. Everything is finished to a high standard. Breakfast is relaxed, with a good continental selection. We also recommend having dinner: the vegetarian food was delicious and the menus inventive. We’ll try some of the recipes ourselves. The apartment isn’t suitable for small children because of the low windows and steep stairs, but we’d recommend it to couples looking for a treat. It was a delight to stay here, and we only wish we hadn’t had to pack up and go home. Thanks, Andrew and Gail, for a memorable break. We’ll definitely be back.

We made the most of our visit thanks to Gail and Andrew’s helpfulness, especially their suggested daily itineraries. Their home was an eclectic ancient école in a lovingly restored hamlet, and the setting was delightful in every way: a tranquil spot high in the Auvergne mountains, among forests, wildflower meadows, and ancient villages gathered in the valleys and on hilltops. Thoroughly recommended!
