The staff were friendly, and the hotel was clean and within a reasonable walk of the center. Rooms are really snug, meaning tiny, but my shower was hot with a good flow. Breakfast was okay, though the scrambled eggs were cold in the bain Marie at 7am. Had they come from the fridge and been put there to warm up? The hotels in Puy en Velay are all expensive, and this one was a little cheaper, with slightly smaller rooms.

Dinner was fine, and the breakfast buffet had lots of choices. The room was clean and comfortable, with a bathtub instead of a shower. At check-in, the friendly woman explained dinner, breakfast, and how to find my room in slow French, making sure I understood. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout, which matters a lot to me.

The room was comfortable and clean, and breakfast had a wide selection. The hotel is handy for the station, old town, and cathedral. Arrival was chaotic: they couldn’t find our booking or payment, then found two bookings but still no payment, before eventually sorting it out. Getting in after 11pm is difficult, and the WiFi was patchy.

The staff were very helpful, even arranging DHL when I needed a courier for a bag. We also had lunches prepared for the first day of GR65, and the quality was very good. Dinner and breakfast were included in our Camino package, and we were very satisfied with both. It’s great value for the rating, has a great location, and I highly recommend it.

The hotel is in a beautiful place, but the property itself feels dated and underinvested. Service was mediocre, and there was no chance of a quiet night with the paper-thin walls and noise from the landings and street. The beds in the rooms I saw sagged and were uncomfortable. Two stars may be a bit generous.
