La Salmonière

Our stay at La Salmonière was “unforgettable,” and definitely not in a good way. The room had a musty smell that seemed to have been there for decades. The walls were so thin we could hear the neighbors breathing, coughing, talking, and more. It felt like we were all in one room. From arrival, the atmosphere was tense. The welcome was frosty, and the manager seemed to treat politeness as optional. We felt we shouldn't bother him, which is a shame in a place that's meant to offer hospitality. Breakfast was another low point: stale bread, watery coffee, and processed food. We wondered where the effort, and the price, had gone. Unless you enjoy tense surroundings, sleepless nights, and ghostly buffets, there are much better options elsewhere.

We'd booked seven nights but left after just one. The room was supposedly luxury, though the bedspread had odd stains that we preferred to imagine were coffee or something similar. The bath curtain downstairs was moldy. At night, upstairs footsteps and voices from below kept us awake. The chandelier's glass pendants clinked until midnight from the upstairs neighbor's steps, so the manor wasn't haunted after all. Getting checked in took 20 minutes of waiting despite ringing the doorbell. There was a mobile number on the door, but...no signal. A young man greeted us without friendliness, and we felt like a nuisance. Breakfast was meager: a croissant, two slices of baguette, and jam in "hospital" packaging.

The owners gave us a very nice welcome. Our room was beautiful and very clean, and breakfast in the dining room by the great fireplace was very good.

A lovely building in a peaceful spot, with a beautiful direct view of the sea. P.S. Breakfast was excellent!
