Kaze Océan The Originals Relais

The baby cot was unsafe by any standard: it came with a very soft mattress that was a different size from the bed, leaving a large gap and a dangerous sleeping setup for a small baby. The hosts weren't very helpful in sorting it out, and my husband ended up driving 2h+ to find an alternative. We also found it unclear how to contact anyone with a problem or question, and the hosts don't speak much English, even though everyone else in Cap Ferret does. The last straw was a €200 charge for not tidying the apartment, something that probably would have taken 30 minutes to fix. We were surprised by all the positive reviews. The rooms advertised as 2 piece suits were actually one connected room with no doors between the bedroom, bathroom, and living room. There were basic design problems too: no blackout curtains, no proper wardrobes, and the air conditioning was behind curtains, so cold air couldn't circulate when they were closed. The pool area wasn't inviting either, with a pool cleaning robot there all the time.

The Monday night pork stew with lentils, rice, and salsa, a dish from Reunion Island, was so stunning it would be worth a trip on its own. We liked it enough to book again for Thursday's chicken curry, which was just as delicious and really wholesome. John and Adrian also gave great wine advice, and the bar and restaurant had a lovely atmosphere. Our room was very well equipped, with a kitchen and sitting room area in every room, which we hadn't expected. The relaxation area was charming, simply planted, and the whole setting felt subtle and understated. It's a relaxing, informal place, just 400m from the Atlantic beach and 400m from Plage de Americans, so you can choose between two lovely beaches depending on the weather. We enjoyed our stay immensely and shall return to get some sand between our toes, enjoy Cap Feret, and relax again.

We really enjoyed our stay. It's a boutique 3 star hotel with impressively spacious rooms, a great restaurant, and friendly staff. We'd definitely stay here again.
