The friendly French guests made the evening more enjoyable, but they couldn't make up for how disappointing the stay was. We came as two couples for one night at La Ferme Berger in Ardillats on 29 September, with high hopes after seeing the romantic photo of the farmhouse. There was room inside the grounds, yet we were told to park in the public lot outside. The male owner greeted us warmly; the female owner seemed unhappy, and that didn't change during our visit. The room setup felt unappealing: the bathroom had only a shower curtain, and the toilet was open to the room. Dinner was also a letdown. We got a little salad and two pieces of bread to start, then a boiled potato, carrot purée, and a few slices of sour pork sausage, with hardly any flavor. Breakfast was no better. The bread the B&B praises was so stale we couldn't eat it, and the orange juice was fake. The homemade jam was the one bright spot. The owners reportedly say the price means they can't do better, but I don't buy that. Other Chambre d'Hôtes at the same price manage to please their guests without much trouble. For us, the value was very poor compared with other places we've stayed. We won't return, and this is an honest review.

We hadn't expected to find somewhere so lovely. It's a peaceful, beautiful place that left us feeling refreshed. The owners were incredibly attentive and welcomed us like old friends. They cooked a delicious meal with good ingredients and real passion. Their enthusiasm for the place and for meeting people made our brief stop feel truly special. Thank you! ☺️

For anyone looking for a bed and breakfast in Beaujolais, I'd point them to Annouck and David's. Their welcome was so warm, and the spacious place is decorated beautifully. The rooms have what you need, including heating and cozy duvets. What really stood out was how kind they were. They even gave us tomato jam made from tomatoes in their own garden. 🥹😍
