Residence Le Chalet du Mont Vallon

We had the house burgers at the bar on Christmas Eve, and they were among the best we’ve ever had. The staff were very accommodating about our last-minute request. The location is OK at the bottom of the resort, but when the public lift breaks it’s quite a walk carrying skis or shopping. It broke twice during our stay. The hotel has ski-in, ski-out access, though the return piste gets badly iced just before arrival, making it tricky for novice skiers. Our one-bedroom room was nice enough for a week at Christmas. The kids’ bunk alcove is by the front door, so it can be noisy for them. The pool area was nice but very cold, making it hard to enjoy for long. The sauna could have helped, but kids kept leaving its door open, so it got cold too. Some guests were inconsiderate. Our neighbors were noisy and dirty, leaving garbage bags in the hallway overnight and their gear blocking it. Would I book again? I’m not sure.

The room was tidied every day and the service was very nice. It’s a convenient ski-in/ski-out location for skiers and snowboarders, and not far from the center of Les Bruyeres. I had a very good stay and would choose this apartment again if I return to ski in the area.

The staff and location were lovely, and the room was spacious and warm. The kitchen setup was odd, though, with a tea kettle, three spoons, and four cups and mugs? The food was below par, and the spa and pool were basic and very small. There were only three pieces of exercise equipment and no lockers. Kids shouldn’t be allowed to use the facilities after 7 PM, at least. If you’re after luxury, this isn’t for you.

Chalet du Mont Vallon is charming and the amenities are decent, but the staff’s attitude spoiled the experience. On checkout morning there was no water in our room for over an hour. We told reception and later the hotel manager, but both were indifferent and dismissive. We washed our teeth in the lobby restroom and couldn’t shower before leaving. We asked for some compensation, but they flatly refused and didn’t even offer a small gesture. We still had to pay a few euros for the teas we’d had the night before. For the price, the experience fell short of expectations. The hotel looks good and its services are good, but the staff left us with a sour impression.
