Chalet Saint Pères

This was our second stay at Chalet Bernardie with the excellent SC-Saint Martin team. The chalet is well equipped and reasonably priced, with an amazing spot near the gondola, so it feels very much ski-in, ski-out. One of the best ski resorts in the world. What's not to like?

The location was a real highlight, and the chalet was spotless when we arrived. Our family of five adults and two teenagers had plenty of room in the open-plan living area, and the kitchen was well equipped. The bedrooms are snug, and only two of the bathrooms have walk-in showers. The pillows were great, and the supplied linen and towels were good quality.

The ski lifts were only 50m from the door, and we arrived to find our ski passes already arranged. Nadine and the SC-Saint Martin team were kind, polite and helpful, and checked in with us from time to time to see how things were going. We spent a week with friends at the Fruitiere chalet and had a memorable stay. It was recently renovated, warm, clean and cosy, with a fireplace, a large living room, a flat-screen TV with Netflix and hot water all day. The chalet was fully equipped too.

We’ve stayed at Carmine chalet for three ski holidays, always in the first week of April, with two families of nine people. The chalet is a comfortable size for meals and relaxing after skiing, with a big dining table and enough seats for watching TV. There’s a DVD player and UK Sky Freeview, plus underground parking, a ski locker and a boot heater. From St Martin, the lift takes you to the ridge, with routes down to Meribel and on to Courchevel, or towards Les Menuires and Val Thorens. There’s skiing for all abilities, and plenty of altitude at Val Thoren. Snow conditions improved each year we visited. In the last two years, there was skiable snow all the way to the bottom of the bubble lift, though it got very slushy in the afternoon. You can take the bubble back down if you’d rather skip the last run. The bubble lift is within 100m on a flat walk. A small village shop is about 150m away, and the lift pass office and ski hire are near it. The larger shop is down in the main village centre, about a 10-minute walk downhill. Nadine and Jess were accommodating and available to help with arrangements and advice. We’ve had three great holidays here and would definitely recommend the chalet.
