There were frequent power cuts and fire alarms. The agency didn't clean the apartment properly: dirty towels from the previous guests and fake tanning products were still in the room. The fire alarm was covered with a bin bag. There were almost no amenities, and even with the right tablets and rinse aid, the dishwasher didn't really clean the dishes.

Our apartment, Appartements de MAE No. 225, was clean and tidy when we arrived for a week at the end of January 2026. It was listed for six people, with one double bedroom and another room with two bunk beds. There were three of us, all adults, on a snow holiday, skiing and boarding. The apartment looked a little better in the photos than in person, with visible wear and tear. Three or four adults could manage if they don't mind bunk beds, but six average-sized adults would be very cramped. A couple with children should be fine. There was only about a foot of space around the double bed, making it awkward to get in and out, and there wasn't much room to change. Clothes storage was limited to a couple of cubbies and a little hanging space in the bunk room. The bathroom had a large shower and it was handy having a separate toilet, though the toilet room was tiny. I'm about 5'5", female, and not very large, and my knees touched the door when I sat down. The location was excellent, right in the center of Val Thorens. It took less than five minutes to get to the ski area and lifts, shops, gear hire, bakery, and sports and wellness center. We had keys for three ski lockers in the boot room, but were told boots could stay in the apartment because it would be very cold in the lockers, so that's what we did. For the price of our holiday, the apartment and location were worth it, and we enjoyed our stay. The building itself is a different matter. Les appartements de MAE is a selection of apartments in Residence Olympiades, a building of around seven floors with many apartments. It seems it used to be a hotel, and other reviews say this changed as recently as 2025, with different agencies or private buyers owning rooms or apartments. The overall residence badly needs work, though I think that is mostly separate from the individual apartments, whose condition depends on whether owners have renovated them. The common areas were in awful shape, with dirty decor and missing or cracked plaster. One of the two elevators was broken most of the week, and both were out of order for nearly two days. We were glad to be on the second floor. Near the end of the week, water streamed from a ceiling leak into the entrance. There seemed to be maintenance workers and cleaners, yet a bag of rubbish was left scattered in the stairwell for over a day. The biggest nuisance was handling snow gear. The boot rooms are downstairs and only reachable by spiral concrete stairs. Signs said to remove ski boots in the entrance and not take boots or skis in the lifts or apartments. You also couldn't leave shoes or sandals in the entrance to change into. That meant carrying your equipment in socks, carrying shoes around all day, or doing what most people seemed to do and ignoring the signs by taking everything to the apartment.

Séverine, Elyse, and Florent are on-site and quick to respond, doing their best to make guests' stays pleasant. We spent a week in February 2026 in one of Maé's beautiful apartments. It was renovated, tastefully decorated, functional, well-equipped, and offered high-quality service. The village center and slopes are right there, so we didn't need the car all week. Excellent stay, highly recommend!
