The toilet was so cramped that you could barely shut the door, and the bathroom and living room, which was also the second bedroom, were tiny. The bunk beds felt unsafe, so I slept on a mattress on the floor. They said there was WiFi, but it wasn’t included and they wanted you to rent it. I didn’t bother. I’ve stayed in prison and this is by far the worst place I’ve ever been. Don’t stay here, it’s very bad.

Résidence L'Arcelle is a relaxed, welcoming base in Val Thorens, with friendly, helpful staff who are ready to answer questions. Shops are all within walking distance, from supermarkets and ski rental places to boutiques, which makes it easy to pick up what you need. The slopes are just a short walk away, so you can be skiing within minutes and make the most of your time on the mountain. The apartments are roomy and modern, with well-equipped kitchens for self-catering and lovely mountain views. Their interiors combine Alpine touches with modern comforts. It’s a comfortable place to stay whether you’re there to ski or just take a break in the mountains.

The apartment, 606/6, was awful. There was no ceiling light, and the toilet was so dark that even a candle would have been brighter in an emergency. Its door wouldn’t close. In the bathroom, the tub tap was hard to find and the shower hose was only 30 cm long. The dishes were dirty, and the aluminum forks broke. There was no dishwasher, and the sink was too small for even a plate. The fridge had no shelves, and its door came off when opened. The bed collapsed when unfolded. I wouldn’t keep animals in a place like this.

The village center is right there, so the location is perfect. The building has an old-fashioned feel but works fine, and the ski lockers are useful. They could use heated ventilation instead of warmers. You can ski in and out, or take a short walk to the piste.

Nothing fancy, but you get what you paid for and there’s everything you need for a lovely holiday. There are pots, pans, cutlery, a kettle, coffee machine, toaster, and the rest for cooking in the apartment. There are also a few markets downstairs for groceries. I gave it five stars for the great location, too.
