The place is only 20m to 50m from several ski lifts, with skiing straight from the back door. There’s a supermarket on site, so getting fresh bread and food for lunch or dinner is easy. The view of the slopes was impressive too. Inside, though, it smells, and the corridors and room doors look like rundown North London flats. The rooms are basic but okay if you’re happy to make do, with a very small kitchen. The ski store smelled of dog poo, sweat, and burnt rubber. We used it the first day, then found it just as easy to bring our skis and boots back to the room. It was noisy most evenings, with people banging on doors and shouting or talking in the corridors. At 3am on the first night, someone came into our room and left straight away. Make sure you lock the doors. You get what you pay for. I’d stay again with my son for a cheap holiday, but not with a bigger family. For that, everything would need to be better.

Really disgusting. The stairs were covered in rubbish, laundry, vomit, and other mess. We got there Friday, and it was still exactly the same on Sunday. It felt more like a squat than a holiday resort. The bathroom was full of mold. It came off when rubbed, which made it seem like the bathroom hadn’t been cleaned in months. Under the sink and around the toilet, the mold looked years old. Bah!

The location was the main reason we chose this apartment. With young children, we wanted to be close to the magic carpet and ski school. We’ve stayed in Val Thorens three times, but this was our first time in this apartment. It can sleep 12, and the large dining table fit all of us for meals. But there weren’t enough big pots and pans to cook for that many people. The apartment itself was very basic and not clean: every surface had layers of dust, there were cobwebs on the ceilings, and the living room cushions were stained. Bedding and towels weren’t included, which meant an extra €45 per double bed unless we brought our own. One morning the ski locker room, which is locked from 20:00-08:00, wasn’t opened until 09:05. We missed the 09:00 private lessons and ski school we’d booked, and there was no refund. Lessons aren’t cheap at this resort, and you can’t always book more. Trying to find staff for help in a huge building while rushing with children in their ski clothes and boots made the stay even less enjoyable. The bathrooms seemed relatively new, which was nice, but some bedrooms had little privacy because the toilets and showers had no separate doors within the rooms.

The direct ski lift access is excellent, and it’s handy to have a balcony, lockable ski storage, and a garage for cars up to 1.8 m tall. The rooms comfortably fit 5-6 adults, though the bunk beds for children aren’t really suitable for adults. Our stay at Résidence Pierre & Vacances Le Tikal was okay, but the rooms hadn’t been cleaned before we arrived, and there’s no cleaning during the stay. Guests have to make and strip their own beds. There were no garbage bags or instructions for disposing of waste. Wi-Fi was extremely slow, about like Edge, and mobile internet was unreliable too. I wouldn’t choose it again given those practical issues, even though it works if skiing is your main priority. Cheers

The room wasn’t clean, and the shower barely trickled water, so it was hard to get properly wet. The noise was also awful. Another guest screamed, shouted, and banged for hours during the night. Hotel security locked him in his room and let it carry on all night. It felt unsafe, and I think they should have handled it properly, possibly by involving the police. People smoking and drinking on balconies also made noise well into the evening. The whole stay was inconvenient from the start. We had to carry all our luggage across town to collect the keys and bedding from the opposite side. After a long journey, it was exhausting and unnecessary. Checkout was just as bad: you have to leave very early, and bag storage costs extra. Otherwise, you carry all your luggage and ski gear across town again to return the keys and bedding. That’s ridiculous for ski resort accommodation. Poor organisation, dirty rooms, bad noise control, and little regard for guests’ comfort. I wouldn’t stay here again.
