Hôtel du Centenaire

Les Eyzies is a charming town steeped in history, and we’d happily return there as well as to Le Centenaire next time we’re in The Dordogne. Our stay was wonderful. The hotel’s extra little touches made it feel special, and the facilities were excellent. Our room was big and well appointed, with a very large, comfortable bed. A fabulous hotel.

We started each hiking day with the continental breakfast, which was so copious it also supplied our picnic lunches. The rooms were quiet and extremely comfortable, and the regional food was delicious. We were welcomed with hot mint tea and a trolley of locally made soaps, shampoos and pure shea butter. We picked the toiletries we wanted for our stay, which helps reduce plastic waste, and by then our bags had somehow made their way upstairs. Our large, beautiful room had a balcony, lovely furnishings and a modern, well appointed bathroom. We stayed three nights on a recent hiking trip and were impressed by the personalized service. I highly recommend this beautiful hotel.

The cheese selection was amazing, and most of the other dishes were delicious and beautifully presented. My tomato and basil starter was a little bland, though, and my partner’s strawberry dessert had a strange earthy flavor. Something had gone wrong with our reservation, but the staff kindly found us a table inside, with a nice view of the lovely courtyard. They were super nice and not too formal, which really made our night. We’d come back.

Dinner at the restaurant was one of the best meals we’ve ever had, without exaggeration. Chef Mathieu Métifet made it exciting, surprising, delicious and filling. Chloé also gave us recommendations for things to do, and some of those sights ended up among our favorites of the whole trip. The hotel is in a great spot for getting everywhere we wanted, and we appreciated its environmentally friendly approach. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with a fantastic updated bathroom. The friendly, professional owners and staff made us feel at ease right away. Hôtel le Centenaire exceeded our expectations, and we can’t wait to return.
