Chalet Solneige

The hosts made the chalet feel very welcoming, and there was a large shared sitting area to relax in after skiing. We came as a group of 8 to Alp d'Huez for the first time. The rooms are standard for this kind of chalet, so the en-suite bathrooms are small. Getting there from Geneva took 2.5-3 hours by shuttle, which isn't very convenient for visitors from the U.S. When there is snow, the mountain is great, with lots of different terrain, long pistes, trees, and bowls. Breakfast included grains, bread, yogurt, and eggs on request. Dinner was well-cooked, home-style food. Nothing especially memorable, but no complaints. We had beef boug and tartiflette. The chalet is in Valjuany, which doesn't really have a resort, village, or nightlife, so plan for that. The bus service was poor, to put it generously: there were three buses in the morning, with 9:30 the last one up, and the first bus back to the chalet was at 4:15. If you're hoping to go out partying after dinner, this isn't the place. For me, six days without anything happening in the village made for a boring week if you weren't on the mountain every day. There's a four-person hot tub and sauna at the chalet. The Swedes in our group thought the sauna didn't get hot enough, but 55C was plenty hot for me. We didn't have storage at the base of Valjauny, so carrying our snowboards to and from the lifts every day was a pain.

Lovely food, great views, and a great place to stay. The hosts were wonderful too. Don't look anywhere else!
