We had mixed feelings about Domaine Chalaniat. The room had such a strong smell that we nearly changed accommodations, though in the end we stayed. The old renovated house could really use more ventilation and fresh air. Arriving late in the dark was difficult, as there were no outdoor lights to guide us. Breakfast was nothing special. The host was helpful, but we still got a slightly suspicious vibe. It is an interesting place, just not an easy stay for us.

There was lots to do in the area, and we'll be back! Valerie was wonderful before we arrived, greeting us and even booking dinner for us in a nearby village. Both bedrooms are spacious and beautifully restored, with lovely modern bathrooms. The bed linen and bathroom towels were high quality, and breakfast was delicious.

Our first floor room was the Ghislaine bedroom, large and lavishly decorated, with a spacious, well appointed en suite and walk in shower. The owner welcomed us in a very friendly, helpful way and explained her family's connection to the property over several generations. The house sits in large grounds in la Sauvetat. Madame also called l'Hortus, a local restaurant in Montpeyroux, to reserve a table, and we had a very good meal there. Breakfast at Chalaniat was excellent and plentiful, and the owner looked after everyone in the breakfast room. We'd certainly return and recommend the domaine de Chalaniat to other travellers.

The owner was very helpful, and breakfast was excellent. Our stay was wonderfully relaxing, with a historic feel to the place. The rooms are beautifully decorated in period style, and the bed and sheets felt luxurious.

The Madame who runs the house was extremely friendly and professional. Everything felt excellent, from the wonderful building to the beautiful furniture. We'll come back in the spring.
