Bonne Anse Plage

We'd return. We booked through siblu and found the accommodation clean and nice, with personal touches that made it feel like an owner's home. The covered decking was great, and there was a place to leave bikes. It was easy to rent bikes on site, and we enjoyed riding the tracks into town and around the area. The bar and restaurant were great too, though we reviewed them separately. It was very hot during our stay, and the pool got busy. You had to get there early for a sunbed or chair, though more became available later in the afternoon. The pool stayed open until 19:00, so there was still time to enjoy it. There was entertainment every night and it was fun to watch, although it was mostly aimed at French guests, as you'd expect. The zoo is a short drive away, and there are lovely beaches near Royan for body boarding.

In September, the bar wasn't open during the day on weekdays or at all on Mondays. The pool area was the best part, with plenty of sunbeds, lots of staff and good upkeep. Our mobile home was clean and well equipped, but it felt dated, and the shower was awful, either fully hot or fully cold. We also had to collect the linen and towels ourselves, even though we'd ordered them.

La Palmyre is a nice town about 2 km away, with plenty going on, beaches nearby and lots of attractions. The larger supermarkets are in La Tremblade, around 20 minutes away. The campsite is decent, with trees all around, a pool with some good slides, a shop and laundry area. The lifeguards limit how many people can climb the slide stairs, so the wait can get long. It's a middle-of-the-road site, perhaps 2-3 stars: not terrible, but not brilliant either. Our accommodation was probably only 2-star. We booked for eight, but it felt cramped even with seven, with very little storage and a poor layout. The pitches are also so tightly packed that you're right on top of your neighbours. That made it awkward to play cards on our deck at 10pm when the next pitch had small children. We had two good weeks, but the cramped accommodation and high-density pitches mean we won't return.

The kids had loads to do, with fun activities, good pools and slides, and entertainment every night. Staff were great, the facilities were lovely, and we enjoyed the restaurant too. A fantastic campsite.
