Rental Apartment La Combe D Or 8

This review is for the old part of the complex, which doesn't match the photos. It seems there are new and old sections. At this price, I'd give it three stars at best, and only if it were five times cheaper. The apartment smelled of cigarettes. The sheets were dirty, beds weren't made, and there were spiders and unknown insects inside. There was a broken glass in the kitchen, no soap, and nothing in English. You're expected to clean the apartment or lose your deposit, but they provide no cleaning products or supplies. The pedestrian path is never cleaned and is quite dangerous. The ventilation was filthy and didn't work. The air came in through a poorly sealed terrace door even when it was closed. The heaters were from the 1990s, some falling apart, and one didn't work at all. The plumbing was poor too: water pressure was weak, and it seemed to stay cold from 16h to 23h. The coffee maker and water heater didn't work. The hairdryer was melted inside, a fire hazard. The washroom and toilet are on separate floors. The toilet room has no sink or faucet, while the washroom has a sink, faucet and shower but no toilet bowl, and it's only 1.5 square meters. They supplied the cheapest see-through toilet paper. You share half a house with another apartment, and there's almost no soundproofing. The walls might as well be cardboard; you can hear nearly everything. Two of the single beds were only 160-170 cm long, too short for adults. Wi-Fi was practically nonexistent. It barely reached one room and didn't work most of the time. It took 10 minutes to connect. When it did work, download ranged from 0.2 Mbps most of the time to 2 Mbps, upload was 0.5 Mbps and ping was 150-300 ms. That's the sort of speed you'd expect in 2000-2005, not 2024.

We had everything we needed, and it all worked properly. The view was great, and in winter the slopes are right in your backyard. Our four-person room felt a bit small, and the hammam and sauna were small too, but we really enjoyed them as a way to relax after a long, intense day. A quick dip in the pool topped it off. We had a great time!

The rooms were clean and pretty, and what they say about being at the slope is true, though access is just a path. It's very icy and difficult for beginners, and you have to walk up with your skis because you can't ski down to the slope. Also, if you book a room for 2-4 people, you probably won't get one of the houses shown in the photos. Those are family rooms; the other rooms are in the main building.

The location was awesome, with the slopes just three minutes away, and it's cheaper than hotels in Austria or Switzerland. But the room was dirty enough that we had to clean before moving in. The wardrobe was broken and the couch in the main room was disgusting; I attached photos. The pool was okay, though a little cold. The sauna wasn't as hot as it should be and couldn't be heated more because the owners control it. The hammam was closed. They give you a list of the furniture and equipment in French, so check it carefully.
