Ha Tel Vertime

The rooms are large, modern, and lovely, and you’re only about a 10-minute walk from the shops, restaurants, and seafront. There’s parking, a rooftop bar and restaurant, and another bar on the ground floor. Staff were very friendly and helpful. They’re also very dog-friendly: a well-behaved dog can come into the restaurant as long as it stays under the table, and they provide dog bowls for the room.

The rooftop pool and bar, the location, and the breakfast buffet were all great. The restaurant staff were good, too. The rest of the service felt uncooperative, like they didn’t care much about giving guests a good experience. We had specifically requested three rooms with twin beds and were told that all three had them, including when we arrived. In fact, one room had a queen bed. The room design was also awkward: there were no bathroom doors, so the bedroom door had to be shut to give someone privacy in the toilet, which also meant the other person couldn’t use the main door. A very average stay.

We were lucky to find a last-minute suite at Hotel Vertime for the Vendee Globe launch. It looked out over the Vendee Village and was clean, comfortable, and beautiful. We ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the restaurant, and the food was fresh and very tasty. You can tell the chef and staff care about the meals they serve. The people working there made the stay especially good. Everyone we met was kind, friendly, patient with communication, and clearly wanted us to enjoy ourselves. Several shared extra tips for seeing the race launch, encouraged us to visit the rooftop, and checked that our food and drinks suited us. We highly recommend Hotel Vertime, especially if your French isn’t very fluent like ours 😉

I booked a suite, then was told it wasn’t available. They charged me for it anyway, though the overpayment was eventually returned. Now, four months later, there’s another €658 charge on my card out of nowhere. This hotel is charging cards fraudulently. Please think twice before booking. I can’t believe I’m the only one this has happened to. A bunch of crooks running the place!
