Au Petit Bonheur chez Bambina

The setting is what stays with you: views across the Mâconais and Beaujolais valleys, vineyards, stone houses, and the lovely village of Leynes. It had a Tolkien-like feel. Bambina welcomed us with real warmth, showed us around, and told us interesting stories about her years in Japan. The rooms are carefully kept, with Japanese-inspired furnishings alongside the 17th-century French architecture. Breakfast was generous, including excellent croissants from Leynes's local artisan bakery. We enjoyed walks, and there are nearby rocks for climbing as well as cycling and plenty of artisan wineries with delicious wines. A memorable stay, highly recommended.

We've stayed here twice now and plan to come back again. Bambina is a lovely, friendly, helpful host. The studio was charming, very clean, and well equipped, with a comfortable bed. There's no air conditioning, but she quickly brought us a fan, which was enough. Breakfast included croissants, baguette, homemade jams, yogurt, fresh fruit, and cheese. Margaret & Peter

The house is beautifully renovated, and the quirky Asian-style decor was a pleasant surprise and very much our taste. We liked the friendly, accommodating owner, the good breakfast, and the lovely views from the windows. It's set among vineyards and small villages, and was handy for the wedding venue we were attending, though getting there without a car can be difficult, with taxis scarce and expensive. One privacy detail to know: the shower room is private but not ensuite, and the toilet is shared with the owners who live there. We gave it 4.5 stars, rounded up to 5 for the atmosphere and views.

We felt very welcome with our young children. The family room was a fantastic size and had air conditioning, and the accommodation was beautiful. Breakfast was lovely too.
