Eklo Hotels Lille

Breakfast was a letdown, with only sweet options: eggs, Nutella, marmalade and croissants, but no cheese or meat. The rooms are tiny, too. Sitting on the toilet, your knees touch the wall. There’s no regular toilet paper and no room service. Bad experience.

The shower didn’t work, and the room was freezing because there was barely any heat. My calls to reception went unanswered, and the staff seemed indifferent, which left me feeling neglected and frustrated. The rooms were filthy, cluttered, and in a shocking state of disrepair. Service was nonexistent, and the whole stay was deeply disappointing. I’d strongly warn people against staying here. It was a total disaster.

The staff were efficient and helpful, and the pizza was surprisingly good. It’s about a 15-minute walk to the nearest metro and 30 minutes to the center. The rooms are small, the bathrooms cramped, and there’s no air conditioning. The windows open straight onto a balcony shared with other hotel rooms, so there’s not much privacy. It’s a budget hotel, and the rooms show it. Still, I didn’t find it as bad as some other reviews suggest, though there’s room to improve.

The service was really disappointing. Despite several calls, customer service said there was nothing they could do and showed little willingness to help. We’d received clear confirmation that we could pay when we arrived, and nobody had told us there was a problem with the deposit before the last-minute email. We’d booked three months ahead, but on Sunday evening, two days before the stay, they emailed about a payment issue and gave us 24 hours to fix it. Our booking was cancelled just 15 hours later, while we were still trying to sort it out. We never stayed at Eklo Hostel in Bordeaux, so I can’t speak to the rooms or location. We had to find somewhere else for our group of young people the day before departure, and as a youth organisation that last-minute switch cost us nearly twice as much. We’d planned to come back in October with another group, but this experience changed our minds. It was frustrating, with very little support or understanding.
