A huge Colonne stands in the middle of this big square, with gorgeous buildings all around it. It’s lively while still feeling peaceful, right in the city center. A must do in Lille.

There’s a McDonalds here too. The square has lots of terraces and boulangeries where you can stop for a drink, a meal, or a snack. It gets busy on sunny days.

Lille’s a beautiful city, with stunning architecture and plenty to see and do over three days. We found lots of restaurants, coffee, and patisseries. Yummy. Our hotel Mercure grand place was extremely good value, and breakfast was fabulous. We’ll visit again, maybe when it’s not so hot 🥵

Lille is a beautiful city, and the architecture alone makes it well worth visiting. Stunning, and it was good to see a strong police presence.

France has a reputation among travelers for being challenging, but I found it much more charming than I expected. Lille appealed to me even more than Paris. If I return to France, I’ll definitely come back to Lille.
