Ibis Lille Centre Grand Place

The staff were kind and helpful, with advice about shopping, restaurants, museums and more. The hotel also sits in a lovely central spot, with lots of shops and restaurants right nearby. It's not a luxury place, but it's reliable and fairly comfortable, with a decent night's sleep for the price. Like other Ibis hotels, it does what you'd expect: clean rooms and a decent breakfast.

The room was awkward to move around in because of its proportions, and the mattress wasn't very comfortable. It's a basic room, but that's what I expect from IBIS. What really put us off was a distressing problem in the room that led us to leave a night early. They refunded the final night and the staff were friendly, but I don't think the hotel handled the issue with enough care or attention. The black mattress also put us off staying in three-star Accor hotels in the future.

It's convenient for several good restaurants, and the parking was good and staffed, though about 300 metres away on another street. Our fifth-floor room was quiet and okay in size, but its window was so high it felt more like a cell than a room. I wouldn't choose that room again. The rooms are typical Ibis, smallish and neat, with no tea-making facilities. Breakfast was minimal but just okay, and I've had better at other Ibis hotels. They didn't have any black tea at breakfast, which seemed an oversight.

I had a lovely stay in a cosy, comfortable room right in the heart of Lille. I was warmly welcomed when I arrived and would highly recommend the place.
