Dinner was the best part of my stay at Hôtel de France. I had a tasty soup to start, then pasta and chicken with melted cheese. It gets busy, especially around lunch, so booking ahead is a good idea. The food is worth it, though there can be a long wait between courses. My room was clean, comfortable, and roomy enough, with the sloped attic ceiling shown in the photos and video. I was on the third floor, so keep the stairs in mind if you have heavy bags. From the window I could see the town and nearby hills at sunset. The bathroom was tidy and had a modern shower and sink. The hotel is right in the town center, close to most facilities, and has a small, handy private parking area with a garden feel. The staff were polite and very helpful. I don't speak French, but they translated for me and made sure I had what I needed. A comfortable, friendly place with a great restaurant.

The Roman Hypodrum is nearby, which made the location handy. The people working at the hotel were nice, and breakfast was good too.

The staff member at reception wouldn't let me park my motorbike in front of the hotel, saying the boss wouldn't allow it. There was plenty of space, but he wouldn't compromise, and I couldn't understand the refusal. The bathrooms were awful, and I waited 10 minutes for hot water. The hotel is outdated and has no soundproofing, so you can clearly hear neighbours and people walking overhead. My double room was huge, but the TV was only 22 inches. It's cheap, but I'd pay €15 or €20 more for a hotel on a completely different level. I strongly recommend staying somewhere else.

We only needed a place for one night, but arrived at 3:45 pm to find the hotel closed. It doesn't open until 5pm.

Good value for the price, and not too expensive. The Roman ruins aren't far away. One of Joyce's good choices.
