Hotel Eliseo

Friendly staff and a good range of breakfast options. The location is excellent, just a five-minute walk to the grotto.

We were very disappointed for a four-star hotel. At breakfast, our group of four was served mouldy apple cake, and the waiter was generally rude throughout the service. It wasn’t the standard we expected.

The staff worked exceptionally hard and were always pleasant, even while rushed off their feet. Our pilgrimage group had full board, but it was far too much food: breakfast, a three-course lunch and dinner. The food quality varied, from lovely traditional home cooking to disappointing pre-cooked ready meals. Perhaps lunch could be smaller, with a better-quality dinner. Anyone infirm or using a wheelchair should know the hotel is on an exceptionally steep hill.

The staff at reception were lovely, accommodating, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. The hotel was good value, and its location suited our visit to the sanctuary perfectly. A few things made the stay harder, though: breakfast felt chaotic in the cramped serving area, and the bath showers were difficult to get in and out of. Given my age and mobility, I was worried about using one; my mother was moved to a different room. We found the evening meal so disappointing that we ate out. Since the weather was bad during our stay, an extra blanket would have helped.
