Hotel Fort St Laurent Lyon - Handwritten Collection

The rooms in this medieval building have an interesting layout, but were comfortable and functional. The staff were friendly and helpful, and we loved the neighborhood and its astonishing views. The road outside was under construction during our visit, so drop-off and pickup were confusing. Hopefully that work is finished soon.

We stayed at Hotel Fort St. Laurent in Lyon in August 2025, and I’ve been meaning to write this review. Our room was one of two by the entrance, separate from the main building. It was spacious and had all the amenities, but missed the view and the wood and stone character of the original construction, which was the main reason I booked the hotel. There’s a bar across from those rooms, though it doesn’t stay open very late and wasn’t much of a problem. Parking is complicated, as it is in any large French city. We hadn’t booked breakfast, but went down one day. The choices were limited and poorly presented, so we didn’t think it was worth the price. The property itself is an old building renovated for lodging.

There’s no indoor bar or restaurant, but the terrace has a rather cool setup of transparent spheres with comfortable seating and service. The hotel sits on a historic site, and the terrace looks out over the eastern part of Lyon. Staff were efficient and helpful, including when they explained where to park.

I can’t recommend this hotel enough and would love to return when I visit Lyon. Our room, 222, was wonderful, with a large, beautifully appointed bathroom and a comfortable bed. It’s under the eaves, so to see the view you need to stand on a special footstool, which was fun. The restored Fort is just perfect, and the terrace bar has lovely views. They’re planning to put covers up there in winter. C13 is one bus line to the rail station, but we took a taxi for €26 because we had a heavy case. The young lady at reception and the concierge put our bags in the room while we were at the bar. Great service, and the bar lady was lovely.
